Colin Todd

BHP Sport - Consultant

Colin Todd joined BHP Sport as a Consultant in November 2010.

Former professional football manager and player, Colin has enjoyed a career spanning over forty years. He has made more than 600 appearances in the Football League, playing for Sunderland, Derby County, Everton, Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest, Oxford United and Luton Town.

During five years between 1972 and 1977, Colin also won 27 England caps.

Colin's career began as an apprentice for Sunderland playing for the first team when he was 17 and totalled over 170 games with the club. He then transferred to Derby County for, at the time, a record signing fee of £170,000.00 (paid by Brian Clough). He stayed with Derby for 8 seasons winning two championship medals as well as the best accolade a professional player can achieve - a PFA award.

Colin has also managed English league clubs Middlesbrough, Bolton Wanderers, Swindon Town, Derby County, Bradford City, Darlington and Danish Superliga side Randers FC.

Colin believes that the welfare of young players is paramount.

"With young teenage players we will meet with parents and keep them fully informed about their son’s careers. As they progress, contracts can become very technical and complex so players are advised to have professional support.”
