BHP Sports new Dutch Signings

ELEVEN Dutch footballers have taken a step towards the English Premier League after being signed up by a North East sports agency.

Darlington based BHP Sport, a division of regional law firm BHP Law, is managing the careers and contracts of the 11 professionals within the UK as well as offering services from legal advice to wealth management.

The division, headed up by ex-professional player and former manager of Darlington Football Club, David Hodgson, is the only full service sports management and representation agency within a law firm in the North East.

“These new signings have really strengthened our European footballing ties,” said David.

“BHP Sport’s reputation as a first class management agency has travelled further afield thanks to our links with our Dutch agent Andre Wasiman, who helped us negotiate the signings.

“I have already met with all of the players and their families to explain how BHP Sport will work with them on a legal front within the football world.”

He added: “I’ve been in the football agency business for over 20 years and as a former professional footballer I know better than anybody how important it is to secure the right professional representation.

“Everything will be taken care of for the players’ right down to the smallest detail from securing their accommodation, sorting their bills to managing their banking which will leave them free to concentrate on their career.”

The 11 players, who are now hoping to play for clubs in the English premiership, include winger Giovanni Cairo, who plays for NAC Breda; Nigerian born striker Junior Ebobo, NAC Breda; centreback Jurgen Matheij, Sparta Rotterdam; Sudanese striker William Geyah Darjij who has had trials with clubs Feyenoord, FC Utrecht and Sparta; goalkeeper Erik Cummins, FC Utrecht; goalkeeper Arjan van Dijk and fullback Sigourney Bandjar, both of Excelsior A-team, a satellite club of Feyenoord;, Excelsior A-team satellite club of Feyenoord; and fullback Hesdy Suart, AGOVV 1e Division club.

Since its launch BHP Sport has secured a further three talented young British players: Ben Alnwick at Tottenham Hotspur; Jonathan Franks, England Under-19 and Middlesbrough; and Aaron Spear at Newcastle United.

In addition to the links with English clubs, the agency is also represented in Europe by Swiss ex-professional and former Darlington FC striker Gaetano Giallanza and exclusively represents Barnsley FC for its European players.

“During my career I played all over the world,” added David, who played at the highest level winning the treble at Liverpool (Championship, FA Cup and League Cup) alongside Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson.

“I got very little help at the time and have seen the mistakes people make.

“BHP Sport has all the legal services of BHP Law (formerly Blackett, Hart and Pratt) at its disposal, making it an innovative addition to the firm. Our experience of the industry means we fully understand what the players need and by giving them one to one personal attention it helps them to keep focused and maintain their standards in the game.”
