BHP Sport's Dan Gosling called up!

16th Dec 2009

THE ground-breaking sports arm of a top North-East law firm has enhanced its growing reputation after one of its most promising footballer clients gained his first England under-21 international call-up.

Everton midfielder Dan Gosling has been with BHP Law’s in-house sports management and representation division since he burst onto the scene with impressive performances for Plymouth Argyle.

And the 19-year-old capped a fine start to this season by making his England under-21 debut against Portugal at Wembley. He has already represented his country at under-17, under-18 and under-19 levels.

Gosling was also included in manager Stuart Pearce’s squad for the 2011 European Championships qualifier away to Lithuania.

His rise through the ranks has been strongly supported by
BHP Sport, which is headed by former Liverpool striker and Darlington FC boss David Hodgson.

The division was the first full-service agency of its kind within the North-East, forging links with football clubs both domestically and throughout the world, and is now expanding into other sports.

BHP Sport director Mr Hodgson is supported by BHP Law Partner Robin Winskell, who is well known in the North East for his specialist knowledge, particularly in the complexities of image rights and contractual issues, built up during many years dealing with major football clubs and players.

Mr Hodgson said the firm was delighted with the success of Gosling, who followed up his international duties by starting for Everton against mighty Manchester United at Old Trafford.

“Dan has been a true professional to work with and we are absolutely thrilled that his career is progressing so well,” he said.

“We have been representing Dan since his early days with Plymouth and we handle everything for him, in order to allow him to just concentrate on his football.

“As a law firm we have the credibility and integrity that makes people want to deal with us and for sportspeople to be represented by us. Dan’s story is one of many that have made BHP Sport a tremendous success so far.”

Gosling said: “BHP Sport has been superb for me. David understands perfectly the demands that are placed on young footballers, especially at the top levels of the game, and it’s great to have him and BHP looking after my interests.”
