Paul Monaghan joined BHP Law in 2007 having previously worked for law firms in the North East and in London, where he specialised in a range of commercial matters.
At BHP Law Paul specialises in Corporate Recovery & Insolvency Law, Commercial Litigation and Sports Law. Paul is a graduate of the University of York, the University of Northumbria, the University of Edinburgh and the College of Law of England and Wales.
Paul acts for a range of individuals and large private sector organisations in and outside of the North East region. He also acts as an agent for a number of top tier football players in the North of England.
Paul advises on a variety of issues arising from the provisions of the Companies Act 2006 and the Insolvency Act 1986. He is one of a limited number of Solicitors who hold the Higher Rights of Audience (All Courts Proceedings) qualification and as a result he is instructed to conduct litigation and appear as advocate in both the lower and higher Courts.

Paul’s practice and experience in the area of Sports Law is also considerable. He is registered with the Football Association as a Registered FA Lawyer and as a result he acts as agent on behalf of a number of top tier football players. Amongst other things, Paul negotiates contracts between players and clubs, negotiates transfers and advises players on a range of issues relating to sponsorship agreements, merchandising agreements, image rights and endorsements agreements.
Paul is registered with the Football Association as a Registered FA Lawyer.
